Second round of bidding for train-the-trainer funds announced

5 Sep 23

Employers wanting to become GIRI Accredited Training Providers are being offered a second chance to bid for a slice of £338k of funds via a CITB commission due to re-open next week.

The funding will give companies the opportunity to train their own trainers to deliver GIRI courses in house, covering some or all of the training and accreditation costs, and thereafter to roll out GIRI training to employees across at least three forthcoming projects.

The commission, which was first launched at the start of this year attracted successful bids from BAM and Taylor Woodrow in the first round. The funding will enable leadership training to be delivered at each company, and project leadership training courses at a number of projects. Each organisation will also train trainers to deliver the GIRI supervisory and management, and interfaces courses internally to ensure that the programme of learning can be continued.

CITB is keen to increase the number of approved GIRI training organisations and has agreed to reopen the tender, with up to four employers set to benefit from the overall pot of £338,000.

Successful bidders will receive financial support to become GIRI Approved Training Providers, equipping internal trainers with the skills, knowledge and tools to deliver GIRI accredited training to approximately 2,500 individuals within their own workforce and supply chain. This is the most cost-effective and sustainable way to increase capacity for delivery of GIRI training and to embed the error reduction approaches across the workforce and supply chain.

Bidders must identify a minimum of three and a maximum of five named projects on which GIRI training will be delivered to the appropriate staff and supply chain between January 2024 to end of August 2025.

Ahead of the commission, GIRI and CITB are hosting a launch webinar, to supply details of the commission and answer any questions from potential bidders. Once the programme opens, all questions will have to be submitted through the CITB portal Delta.
