Network Rail: 'Our Principles of Good Design'
Our members Network Rail have commissioned a new independent Design Advisory Panel to help their business develop a culture where good design also means good business and results in reducing costs over the life of projects.
In partnership with CABE the Advisory Panel have contributed their specialist knowledge to develop Network Rail’s 'Principles of Good Design’. It sets out nine core principles which should be analysed, defined and responded to in the development of any Network Rail asset as part of a planned process.
This document is an exemplar as to how organisations should consider approaching the start of the design process. It sets out the parameters that Network Rail’s designers and design commissioners should follow when setting out and following the design brief. If all Network Rail projects follow these principles they will significantly reduce errors and improve productivity for the business.
