VolkerStevin has ten accredited trainers able to deliver GIRI's supervisory and management skills course, and nine trainers accredited to deliver the interfaces training, after implementing trainer training earlier this year.

The train-the-trainer sessions took place between January and March, delivered by Nick Francis and Oliver Broadbent, and were part of the CITB funding awarded to VolkerStevin in the recent GIRI training commission.

VolkerStevin was awarded £77,200 by CITB to support the trainer training and roll out GIRI training on eight projects: CCF Framework, Wear Bridge, Kendal FRMS, Macclesfield WwTW, Southsea CPS, Littleborough Phase 1B, LEHES, and Padiham FRMS Main Scheme.

The trainers commented on how the courses improved their presentation skills, from keeping to time to better communication of concepts, and enjoyed the ability to present in pairs and get feedback.

They were positive about the content of the courses and how these can benefit the business, from providing greater insight into the challenges facing designers and the design process to the practical tools such as open questions and 'pressing pause to avoid error'.

"This course has already made a difference to the way I communicate, and I know it is going to make a big difference to reducing error on our sites," said one.

Another said: "This is the best training I have been on. It has really equipped me with the tools to help others."
