See Tom Barton Award winner at Futurebuild conference

20 Feb 24

Former Tom Barton Award winner Gavin Ford from Costain will be participating in a Pecha Kucha-style presentation on net zero at the Futurebuild conference on 7 March in London.

Gavin is the quality and handover manager at Costain. He won the inaugural Tom Barton Award for eliminating error for his research into prevention of nonconformance and rework in construction. He will join architects, engineers, planners and sustainability experts in the group presentation chaired by Marcus Shepheard from NESTA that will focus on ‘getting net zero right’.

A Pecha Kucha is a style of presenting that uses images over text and limits each speaker to a set number of slides and an overall time limit. Each speaker at the Future Build Pecha Kucha will address the need for action and share their vision for how to get this complex topic right.

In addition to Gavin, other award-winning presenters include Gina Windley, architect/sustainability designer from Levitt Bernstein, who was shortlisted as a RIBA Rising Star in 2023; Ellen Griffin, senior engineer at GIRI member VolkerStevin and ICE Northwest Rising Star winner 2023; and Chris Moss, senior consultant, Greengage for Environmental and CIEEM highly recommended Promising Professional 2023.

They are joined by Michelle Wang, sustainability lead at Deloitte Global, Dr Ada Lee, infrastructure and climate change specialist, Royal Town Planning Institute, and Sam Burdett, carbon manager for GIRI member Skanska and co-founder and education co-lead of ZERO Next.

The Pecha Kucha session will take place at Futurebuild on Thursday 7 March from 2.45pm to 3.45. Attendance is free but you must register to attend the conference.
