Data collection, inconsistent data and culture are the most common factors affecting the effectiveness of quality KPIs in the construction sector according to the results of the GIRI/CQI ConSIG survey into quality metrics.

Earlier this year, the Get It Right Initiative and the Chartered Quality Institute’s Construction Network (CQI ConSIG) carried out an industry survey to understand the current status of quality key performance measures in the UK construction sector. The aim was to gether data that could inform the development of a universal, cross-sector toolbox of quality measures to support performance improvement in the reduction of error and improvement of quality.

Among the key findings from the survey, which received 107 responses, it was revealed that consistency of approach and improved benchmarking of quality performance are anticipated as the greatest benefits of cross-sector quality KPIs.

The survey feedback also showed that the primary barrier to the implementation of cross-sector quality KPIs is not the absence of metrics, but absence of common language and trusted aggregation, which will inform the next steps of the project.

Further insights into the findings can be read in our survey report. We have also created an infographic showing the key results
