Nominations now open for the Tom Barton Award 2027
14 Jul 26
Nominations have opened for the 2027 Tom Barton Award.
Part of the ICE Awards, the Tom Barton Award honours GIRI’s founding director Tom Barton, who died in 2020. Tom was instrumental in the formation of GIRI and the award, organised with GIRI, seeks to honour his legacy by recognising individuals in construction and engineering who have demonstrated innovation, commitment, and excellence in implementing new ideas or initiatives to eliminate error.
Previous winners include Gavin Ford from Costain, Professor Perry Shard from John Sisk & Son, Pedro Carvalho Costa from WSP, Kathy Ziwei Wen from Geotechnologies Intelligence, and Samantha Kenny from AtkinsRéalis.
Now in its sixth year, the award is open to members and non-members of the ICE and GIRI, but all nominations must be endorsed by an ICE member. We particularly encourage nominations for younger professionals in engineering and construction who have challenged existing thinking, or developed new processes to improve quality, productivity, safety, and sustainability.
Nominations can be for individuals or for project teams and the winner will be invited to attend the ICE awards ceremony to receive their award. Their achievement will also be publicised by GIRI through our website, newsletter and social media platforms.
Nominations are open now and the deadline for submissions is midnight on 8 September 2026. Details of the award and the nomination process can be found on the ICE website.
