Learners praise GIRI Design Guide e-learning as practical tool for improving construction quality
27 Jul 26The first construction professionals to complete the Get It Right Initiative (GIRI) Design Guide e-learning course have praised its practical value in helping teams improve design management, collaboration and project outcomes.
Across the first group of learners, the course achieved an average overall satisfaction score of 4.4 out of 5, while learners rated both the achievement of the learning outcomes and their likelihood of recommending the course to others at an average of 4.5 out of 5.
Participants praised the course for translating the GIRI Design Guide into practical actions that can be applied on real projects. Learners also identified tangible changes they plan to make as a result of the training. These include introducing more structured conversations at key design stages, strengthening design gateway reviews and encouraging clients to spend more time exploring design options before making key decisions.
Kevin Angell of Jackson Jackson & Sons was one of the first to complete the e-learning. He said:
"A few hours of your time invested in this course could empower your teams to eradicate design-rooted error and unlock measurable savings, improving quality and productivity across every stage of your construction project."
Others described the course as "a clear, practical and accessible introduction to the Design Guide", “very informative”, and “useful both to those new to the subject and to experienced practitioners as a reminder of the fundamentals”.
Learners appreciated the easy structure and navigation of the e-learning and praised the use of project scenarios and comparisons between good and poor practice, which helped bring the guidance to life.
The online course is designed for everyone involved in the UK construction process, from clients, designers and contractors to project managers and supply chain partners. It introduces the principles set out in the GIRI Design Guide and demonstrates how better design management can reduce costly errors, improve productivity and deliver higher-quality outcomes.
