Insights from the GIRI/CQIC Conference 2026
24 Jun 26
On 23 June 2026, GIRI members and signatories of the CQIC Charter attended a joint conference to examine compliance, safety and quality in the UK construction sector.
The conference was attended by over 100 people from across the construction sector.
Speakers explored the approach to compliance that is being developed in Scotland by the Building Standards Division of the Scottish Government. The new Compliance Plan (CP) approach will define and implement an appropriate and robust building warrant compliance assurance regime. In England, the Building Safety Act has brought introduced a similar framework approach to the design, construction, and management of buildings.
Speakers from Scottish Government and from CP pilot projects talked about the impact and benefits of the Compliance Plan approach. We also heard the England perspective on the similarities with the Building Safety Act.
Speakers included:
- Colin Campbell, Associate Director - Construction Industry and Delivery, Scottish Futures Trust, and working group member at the CQIC
- Cliff Smith, Executive Director, GIRI
- Frank Doherty, Team Leader - Standards Compliance and Digital Strategy, Building Standards Division at The Scottish Government
- Iain Kent, co-Chair of the CQIC, and Commercial Director - Scotland, Morgan Sindall Construction and Infrastructure
