GIRI urges new construction minister to work with sector to eliminate error
20 Aug 24The Get It Right Initiative Executive Director Cliff Smith has written to Sarah Jones MP, the new construction minister, urging her to work with the sector to eliminate error from the construction process.
Following the July 2024 general election, Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon West, was appointed as Minister of State at both the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, and the Department for Business and Trade. Her ministerial responsibilities include construction and infrastructure, and she holds the government's co-chair of the Construction Leadership Council.
GIRI has a long track record of working collaboratively with government and industry partners including the Construction Leadership Council, the Construction Industry Training Board and the Institution for Civil Engineers to drive improvements in culture, eliminate error and ensure safety, improve sustainability and drive productivity.
As the new government sets out its ambitious plans to establish the National Infrastructure and Service Transformation Authority (NISTA), update the National Policy Planning Framework, and build 1.5 million new homes, we look forward to continuing our work to ensure that error reduction, productivity, and quality are at the heart of development plans.
Cliff Smith said: "GIRI's membership brings together over 100 of the UK’s largest and most significant construction businesses. Together we share innovation and best practice, and drive change for the sector. We are keen to work with the new government to ensure that the construction industry has the legislative framework, funding and skills needed to play our part in delivering its ambitious strategy for growth."
