More than one hundred industry trainers are now approved to deliver GIRI’s error-reduction training.

GIRI issued its 100th approved trainer certificate to Danny Cunningham from BAM in August. Danny is one of BAM’s internal trainers certified to deliver GIRI training as part of the CITB commission awarded last year. He is approved to deliver GIRI’s two-part supervisory and management skills course to staff at BAM as a peer trainer

BAM was awarded CITB funding last year to help them achieve GIRI Approved Training Provider status and train appropriate members of staff to deliver GIRI-accredited courses in house along with Taylor Woodrow, Kier and VolkerStevin. Together with Australian company Icon, which in 2022 was the first business to become a GIRI Approved Training Provider, these companies have now delivered more than 200 courses and issued over 2,200 certificates to their staff, helping to broaden the reach of the training and reduce error in the construction sector.

Christopher Bedford, lead coordinator for quality and improvements initiatives at BAM and an approved GIRI trainer, said: “The take up of GIRI within the industry has been phenomenal since its development back in 2018. The reason is guys like Danny Cunningham, frontline supervisors who are getting out and delivering the courses. They speak to the front line every day and they know the trials and tribulations they face on a daily basis in the fight to get things right first time.”

GIRI has three streams of training: leadership training, which focuses on strategies to eliminate error for leaders of organisations and leaders of construction projects; training across interfaces, which focuses on techniques to avoid interface errors in design and construction and is aimed at managers and designers; and the supervisory and management skills course for site supervisors and managers, which teaches supervision and planning skills to prevent errors during construction.

Of the approved trainer certificates issued to date, 64 are for the supervisory and management skills course, 48 are for training across interfaces, and five for the leadership courses.
