GIRI holds first ever open course for leadership training

GIRI's first ever open course for the leadership training took place on 20 September at the Holiday Inn London Regents Park.

Delivered by Nick Francis, the one-day LE-01 course for leaders of construction organisations was attended by delegates from Willmott Dixon, Sir Robert McAlpine, Farrans and Dragados. GIRI executive director Cliff Smith also attended the course.

The full-day interactive course uses group discussions, video content and guided conversations to explore the consequences and causes of error, and the likely cost and impacts of error within delegates' organisations. The course then considers how behaviour, process and dialogue all have a role to play in eliminating error, and participants conduct a pre-mortem exercise on a selected aspect of their organisation to develop a targeted action plan to pre-empt and eliminate error.

The open course format was offered in response to feedback from members who wanted to book individuals on GIRI training rather than whole teams, and also provided an opportunity for delegates from different organisations to share ideas and learn from each other. Those who attended described the course as 'excellent', 'enjoyable' and aligned with their business needs. "It was good to be able to focus on an important issue without distraction," commented one.
