GIRI and Kennedys host Building Safety Act workshop

4 May 22

The Building Safety Bill has received Royal Assent and became an Act of Parliament on 28 April 2022.

The Act represents some of the most far-reaching changes to building safety ever enacted in the UK and comes in the wake of the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017. Among other things, the Act brings in a new building safety regulator, a new regulator for construction products, and a series of protections for leaseholders.

While much of the Act will not come into effect for 12 to 18 months, construction businesses need to start preparing now for the legislative changes. GIRI and Kennedys Law are jointly organising a workshop to discuss the immediate implications of the Act for GIRI members and the wide industry. The workshop will address the practical ways it will affect contractors and consultants, as well as steps to take now to avoid falling foul of the new provisions.

The event takes place on 25 May, from 4pm to 6pm, at Kennedy’s offices at 25 Fenchurch Avenue, London EC3M 5AD. It is free and open to GIRI members.

Presentations from speakers will be followed by a 30 to 40-minute Q&A session with a panel of experts and a short networking session.

Speakers:
Annette Hall, Operational Policy Lead, HSE Building Safety Programme
Ian Mills/Martin Adie, Head of Quality/Head of Quality Regional at Balfour Beatty
Angela Roberts, Senior Associate – Construction professional indemnity litigation at Kennedys
