Applications invited for GIRI board vacancy

20 Jan 22

GIRI is seeking an exceptional individual to join its board of directors, and is inviting expressions of interest from members who have the necessary commitment and tenacity to take on this hugely valuable voluntary role in the organisation's support structure.

The aim of the recruitment drive is to bring the board back up to its full strength to increase its capacity to support the executive director, and to complement the skills and expertise of the existing board.

The board supports executive director Cliff Smith to help GIRI Ltd achieve its stated aims and objectives: to improve productivity through minimising wasted time and money; to reduce accidents through rework avoidance; to improve carbon footprint through reduced waste of materials; and to support diversity in the establishment of quality standards and specifications.

Directors are appointed for a term of three years in the first instance, and are required to attend four board meetings a year, to take the lead on a specific theme or GIRI working group, leading the work and reporting back to the board, and to represent the organisation and its aims in a presentation to at least one industry event, forum or webinar each year. They will receive all the necessary assistance and support from the GIRI executive director, admin and communications team in these tasks. The average time commitment per month is approximately six hours.

GIRI executive director Cliff Smith said: "The key attribute for a GIRI board member is that they have a passion for error reduction and the enthusiasm and commitment to support our work. Since the loss of Tom Barton in 2020, and my appointment to executive director, the board has been operating on a reduced capacity. We are now seeking an additional member to strengthen the team and help us take forward our exciting plans in the year ahead."
