GIRI forum: Addressing a 'race to the bottom' attitude, post-Covid 19.
Location: Online
Date: Thursday 2nd July 2020
Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Cost: Free (Open to GIRI members and industry professionals)
This is the fifth online forum hosted by GIRI during the Covid-19 crisis. The first forum focussed on understanding the new challenges faced by the industry, the second on staff morale and behaviour, the third on creating and maintaining a positive culture, and the fourth on the challenges of working with changing materials and supply chains.
This forum will concentrate on how we address a 'race to the bottom' attitude, and how we can prevent this leading to an increase in errors post-Covid 19. Once again Nick Francis of GIRI Training & Consultancy will be leading the event.
Benefits for participants
One of the key concerns identified during GIRI's first online forum was the fear that a 'race to the bottom' attitude could come about as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. Members were particularly concerned that extreme commercial pressures could encourage under-pricing of work, and the temptation to cut corners, which could lead to a spike in costly errors.
This forum will focus on how to recognise the potential consequences of any 'race to the bottom'. Participants will use GIRI’s 'GET-IT-WRONG' pre-mortem process to identify the underlying the underlying causes, and then define practical and pragmatic countermeasures to protect their business and prevent errors.
Delegates will participate in an interactive workshop and Nick Francis will deliver excerpts from the GIRI leadership courses, explaining how to address optimism bias, the '5-whys' questioning technique, and how these can be used to prevent errors.
