GIRI Competency & Compliance Forum

Topic: Ensuring quality through construction product information compliance

Chair: Richard Davis, Director, Kier Construction

Speaker: Phil Thompson, ETIM - the international classification standard for technical products

Following on from the joint GIRI/CCPI webinar on 16 September, our next Competency and Compliance Forum will continue the discussion on the importance of rigorous product classification if we are to avoid error through incorrect product selection.

Phil Thompson from ETIM (the international classification standard) will present the case for high-quality construction product data. The forum will explore how the industry can ensure product information remains clear, accurate, accessible, current and unambiguous in response to lessons from the Grenfell Tower Inquiry and ongoing construction product reform.

Phil will explain why an international classification standard for technical products, meets the need for consistent product information that will enable consistent product descriptions, standardised attributes and reliable data exchange across the construction supply chain.

As regulatory expectations increase and digital information becomes central to construction safety and performance, a standard information framework offers the industry a proven route towards greater accuracy, transparency and interoperability in construction product information.
